FPS / ShooterHow to Counter Doctrine in Overwatch 2 (2026): Dive Timing, Ult Respect, Anti-Heal
Quick Answer: How to Counter Doctrine
Doctrine is a Survivor-subrole Support whose whole kit hangs on Infuse charges. You do not need a mythical hard counter — you need timing.
| Rule | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Hold burst until Shrouded Momentum ends | 40% damage reduction + Survivor regen make mid-rush damage inefficient |
| Headshot anyway | Since launch nerfs, the rush no longer grants critical-hit immunity |
| Dive after both Infuse charges are spent | No Infused flight = much easier delete window |
| Focus the drone target | +30% attack speed window is short — kill the buffed hero first |
| Back off for Deliverance (~6s) | Enemy overhealth + your max-HP cut is a bad trade; re-engage after decay |

What You Are Actually Fighting
Doctrine’s mid-range Eternal Scepter heals allies and damages enemies on the same profile. Invigorating Drones spike a carry. Shrouded Momentum is his only escape — Infused, it becomes free flight. Deliverance is a teamfight swing ult, not a solo wipe button.
After three nerfs (October 6, October 13, November 3), cooldowns are longer and infused burst is lower. That helps you: a wasted Infuse on his side is a longer window on yours.
Best Hero Angles (Not a Tier List Religion)
Community counter boards and duel trackers repeatedly surface the same shapes. Treat them as tools, not mandatory swaps off your main.
Dive / Flank pressure
- Tracer — blinks to side angles, recalls out, and can chase a spent horizontal rush.
- Genji — wall climb + Swift Strike punish off-angles after escape is gone.
- Winston / Doomfist — close the gap when flight is unavailable; need follow-up, not a solo hero moment.
- Vendetta / other melee dive — conditional: great if you arrive after Momentum, bad if you eat Infused flight.
Hitscan punish
- Widowmaker, Ashe, Cassidy, Sojourn — punish heal beams on open sightlines. Rush still cuts damage, but crits land.
Support answers
- Ana — Biotic Grenade still taxes scepter healing on tagged targets. It does not delete Deliverance overhealth by itself.
- Lúcio — speed helps the team collapse before Doctrine resets; not a 1v1 answer.

Fight Script: One Engage, Clean Windows
- Track Infuse. Two charges. If he just Infused drones and rushed, the next 9–10 seconds are your dive window.
- Do not dump ults into Deliverance. Wait the ~6s overhealth / HP-cut window, then the short decay, then recommit.
- Peel the drone carrier first when the attack-speed buff is live — Doctrine’s personal scepter is secondary to the buffed Damage hero.
- Force him to choose. Pressure the backline so Infuse must be spent on escape, not on double-droning a carry.
- If he took Cost of Life (major perk: −25 max HP for more healing), focus fire punishes that greed specifically.
Role-by-Role Cheat Sheet
| Your role | Do this | Avoid this |
|---|---|---|
| Tank | Engage after rush; deny his off-angle with space | Diving into Infused flight alone |
| Damage | Headshot mid-rush; burst after DR ends | Feeding Deliverance with fragile ults |
| Support | Anti-heal + peel for the dive | Hard-dueling his scepter at mid-range without cover |

Ultimate Economy Against Deliverance
Deliverance lowers your team’s maximum health and grants his team overhealth. Post-nerf it lands faster and ends sooner — Blizzard’s intent was less total time spent under the effect.
- Treat it like a counter-engage or save ult, not background noise.
- Mobility heroes should leave the AoE vertically or laterally instead of tanking the window.
- After it ends, the fight you skipped is usually the fairer one.
If Doctrine Nano-style combos exist on your ladder (burst Damage + Deliverance), save your own defensive ult for that pairing, not for a random poke fight.
When Not to Swap
Counterwatch-style advice still holds: a mild mismatch on your best hero beats a hard “counter” you cannot aim. Swap when:
- Doctrine is hard-carrying through Infused drones every fight, and
- Your current pick cannot contest mid-range or dive timing, and
- You have at least one comfortable option from the dive / hitscan / anti-heal sets above.
Otherwise, apply the timing rules on your main — most Doctrine grief comes from players dumping damage into Momentum and Deliverance on cooldown.

FAQ
Is Doctrine still overtuned after November 3?
Strong, not unplayable. Longer Infuse / rush cooldowns are exactly what this guide exploits.
What is the single best tip?
Count his Infuse. Everything else is commentary.
Where do I learn his kit numbers?
Overwatch 2 new hero Doctrine abilities.
Wait out the rush, dive the empty charges, refuse the ult trade. That is how you counter Doctrine without inventing a hard-counter fantasy.
